Dwight and Jane Cushman, despite being dedicated to their careers in the funeral industry, have brought to life a weekly plein air group in Montana.

A new Sunday Painter group has emerged in the Great Falls, Montana, area that could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for! Started by husband-and-wife morticians Dwight and Jane Cushman about two months ago, the Sunday Painter group is inviting locals to come together and create art, en plein air.

The couple started Sunday Painter to inspire camaraderie in outdoor ventures to create art, and the group welcomes artists of all skill levels. According to Dwight Cushman, “A bird comes and perches right next to you. A deer walks through the scene. Or, you know, there’s a loving couple that sits down at a bench. If you have one photograph, that moment might not necessarily capture those elements. But if you’re here for a couple of hours on a Sunday, you see amazing things that you wouldn’t normally see, and you can incorporate those into your work.”

This weekend, you can join the group from 1 to 4 p.m. at Big Springs State Park.
