Major Announcement for Plein Air Painters Seeking Extraordinary Experiences: This is a Rare Opportunity to Paint Japan in Cherry Blossom Season

Eric Rhoads, Publisher and Founder of PleinAirâ„¢ Magazine, has announced that he will lead his first and only international painting trip to Japan during cherry blossom season in March of 2024.

The 12-day trip includes touring and daily painting around Japan, including Tokyo, Kyoto by way of Japan’s famous bullet train, Mt. Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Motosujo Motosuko, Shiraito Falls, and the legendary Aokigahara “Suicide Forest.”

“We designed the trip to allow people to see Japan for the first time,” Eric said. “We’ve worked with local painters and travel specialists to design the ultimate Japan trip during peak cherry blossom time. Personally, I can’t wait to paint the colorful architecture, the people, and the spring blossoms.”

The extensive itinerary not only includes painting on most days, but also world-class dining, art museum visits, exclusive tours, shopping time, and memorable experiences.

Eric said, “We’ll paint iconic temples, castles, villages, a film set, views of Mt. Fuji, waterfalls, and cities — and we’ll even hire geishas to model for portraits. We’ll do a group photo wearing kimonos. Artists will be encouraged to paint daily, but also encouraged to do sketching and photography for other future artworks from the experience.”

He added, “My goal is to provide artists with a lifetime memory and give them painting experiences unlike any other. Many artists will end up doing special shows and exhibitions from the work generated in Japan.”

This 12-day, once-in-a-lifetime trip is limited to 48 people. Spouses are welcome to attend and will enjoy sightseeing in the locations we are painting.

Dates: March 22nd (arrive in Japan) – April 2nd, 2024 (depart Japan)
