For established landscape painter Gary Ernest Smith, each finished product represents the result of a lengthy journey that begins with the formation of an idea, continuing through the initial planning stages and on to the final execution. A new exhibition allows viewers to join the artist throughout that process.
Overland Gallery of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona, is currently hosting a revelatory exhibition of paintings by distinguished gallery artist Gary Ernest Smith. ”A Visual Journey” marks Smith’s 29th annual solo exhibition with Overland Gallery, but this showing is unlike any other.

Visitors to the current exhibition will encounter a uniquely intimate portrayal of Gary Ernest Smith. “A Visual Journey” marks the culmination of the artist’s effort to carefully document his creative process from inception to completion for an entire year. Each painting on view will be accompanied by preliminary sketches and original notes from the artist, which will illuminate the inspiration and creation of the finished painting. The purchase of any catalogue painting will include the original sketch and artist’s notes, making this a truly rare collecting opportunity.
