Artist Tanvi Pathare in her studio

How did you get started and then develop your career?
Tanvi Pathare: I began at a young age, as I was curious to draw nature. I was fortunate to start my early art education at an Art school in Mumbai, Sir J.J. School of Art. After graduating from there, in the search for more traditional painting techniques, I enrolled in the Painting program at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. Painting from life and studying nature through paint became an everyday pursuit.
I eventually started teaching at the Florence Academy of Art, while beginning to paint in a studio in Florence, and starting creating my own compositions. I got to work with a few galleries in the USA and Europe.

My work revolved around the human figure in its many beautiful iterations. I love to incorporate a dynamic quality in these larger compositions, and am inspired by the inclusion of fabric, pattern, it harks back to my Indian roots. Studying from nature helps you study design, hence I also paint Plein air landscapes. I paint from my private studio in Florence, Italy.
