“Lilies of the Mission,” by Camille Przewodek, oil, 16 x 20 in.

Put two serious painters — and good friends — on the same stage to paint and it’s likely they will have a great time, keeping the audience laughing as they reveal helpful tips. That’s what will happen as Camille Przewodek demonstrates how to apply oil color with a palette knife and Ned Mueller shows classical techniques for working with bristle brushes.

“Provincetown — Gateway to Light,” by Camille Przewodek, oil, 11 x 14 in.

In 1980, Henry Hensche (1901-1992) opened Camille Przewodek’s eyes to Claude Monet’s impressionist tradition of seeing and painting color with the influence of light. Hensche, who had assisted famed American Impressionist Charles Hawthorne (1872-1930) at the Cape School of Art, changed the way Przewodek perceived shadows, which were no longer dark shapes, but filled with color. She also learned that conveying the shape of objects was accomplished through the interaction of colors. And as the colors changed, so did the form. Hensche changed forever the way in which she saw color, helping her understand the fundamental principles of impressionism. Przewodek will show how you can get better at handling color, composition, paint surface, texture, atmosphere, and space in a painting. To learn more, visit www.przewodek.com.
