Paintings by R. Gregory Summers constitute the show “Frivolities of Summers” that opens in February at the Red Cloud Opera House in Red Cloud, Nebraska.
The show, which is sponsored by the Willa Cather Foundation, runs from February 4 through March 29.

“There are times when I paint that I leave the present and enter another world, one that encompasses the land and that which came before me,” says Summers. “I am a lover of history and the stories that come with it, and when I was given a chance to enter the world of Willa Cather, I was honored and excited. There is a self-guided tour across the county that I drove, painting here and there all of the real-life settings from where a magical book, My Ántonia, had grown. It’s another world painting on location in places that have shaped mankind, there is a power and presence there, and for me there is no better way to feel it.”
