“It was quite an early morning in a small town in Guizhou province, China, when strolling down the alley, I saw these two young girls having a breakfast by the street cafe. They casually sat on their stools and had their meal on the small folding table covered with a plastic tablecloth in a blue striped pattern, chopsticks in hand, and it was such a joyful moment. The street was mostly in the shade of overcast, except the dim morning light accent crossing the street. The black and white t-shirts on they were wearing brought my attention to interesting pattern and design elements. I used the long lens of the camera to take many shots for reference. The painting was done in studio from reference; I simplified the background in focusing on the figure expression.”
