Emily Rives was the First Place winner, and she was followed by Catherine Stroud, who won Second Place by propping up a mirror outside and painting a self-portrait with a plein air background. Jim Bragg snagged the Third Place award.

Participants in the event included, from left to right, Elena Sandovici, Bill Rider (judge), Paula Heffel, Karla Levy (judge), Catherine Stroud, Jim Bragg, Bill Bonha, Marcus Rives, Emily Rives, Susan Pinkerton, and Lissette McClung.

“I was pleased with both the enthusiasm and the quality of the work,” says George Lee, owner of G.Lee Gallery and organizer of the event. “Several of the artists were able to get to multiple locations and submit pictures of each. We would like to make Brushes by the Beach an annual event, and perhaps quarterly.”

  1. Hi Steve,
thanks for the post. One thing, Church had commissioned an early design for his home from R. M. Hunt (his firm was responsible for the family’s first home at Olana – Cosy Cottage) but ultimately it was architect Calvert Vaux who worked with Church on the final design for his home at Olana.

  4. Hi Steve, Thank you for reminding us of the beauty right here in our midst! Thank you for all the hard work you do (that’s fun too – at least for artists)
