In this weekly series Kelly Kane, Editor-in-Chief of Plein Air Magazine, shares a favorite painting and artist quote from a recent issue.

Kelly Kane’s Pick of the Week: Brant Point Light Sketch

“Growing up on the Jersey Shore, I’ve always been fascinated by the architecture of lighthouses. They possess an iconic presence that harks back to a bygone era in nautical history and serve as relics of Americana. It’s no wonder then that I was drawn to Nantucket’s iconic Brant Point Light.

“My first visit to the lighthouse was purely observational, as flocks of tourists huddled around the attraction in search of the perfect photo opportunity. There’s an alluring quality to historically significant locations, and as the second-oldest lighthouse in the United States, Brant Point Light is no exception. Factor in that it’s draped with a large American flag, and I just happened to be there the weekend of Independence Day, and you could literally feel the patriotism in the air.”
