In this series Kelly Kane, Editor-in-Chief of PleinAir® Magazine, shares a favorite painting from a previous issue:
“My goal is to get the viewer away from the edges of the composition, toward the middle, and once there, for the eye to continue to move around. I will go all the way around the edges of the painting, even a completely finished painting, and smudge it with a paper towel, generating radiating lines from the center. It creates this zoom effect, which has been very effective in drawing people into a painting. Because my style is loose, I can get away with it. It can’t be done on every piece, and sometimes it’s just along one side. It’s now part of my style.”
