Brenda Boylan and her comrades braved 90-plus degree temperatures at the Willamette Valley Lavender Fest, with the reward being fine paintings like this.

The two-week paint-out had two categories — professional and open. It was centered in Newberg, Oregon. Aimee Erickson served as judge for the professional division.

“This was one of my demos from my workshop that I ended up cropping down and gesturing in the figure as folks came out in the sun to enjoy the herb at its peak,” says Boylan about the piece pictured above.

  1. I was so captivated by the depth and values of Henryk Ptasiewicz’ interpretation of the Pipe Organ formation that I bought it on sale day. My thought was that the piece should hang in Onondaga to be appreciated by more people . I have loaned the piece to the cave and it is hanging in a classroom where many people meet and is in the line of sight at the entrance to the facility. The artists raise the bar each year of the Plein Air event in Steelville and I am so grateful they are acknowledged in this magazine.
