Many plein air painters have horror stories about passersby hanging around, hovering over their shoulders, watching them paint, and making comments. Gregg Holmes is no exception.

Lead Image: Gregg Holmes paints a very mooving picture.

But rather than hearing about how someone’s aunt used to paint portraits in her attic, Holmes simply heard “moo.” During one of the recent weekly plein air painting outings conducted by the Fredericksburg (VA) Plein Air Artists group on a CSA farm, Holmes was joined by some bovine art fiends. “Gregg was a real sport,” reports Patty O’Brien, one of the organizers. “He painted all morning and the cows stayed right there with him.”
