Tim Newton, art collector - OutdoorPainter.com
Portrait painting of Tim Newton, by Richard Schmid

The Salmagundi Club (est. 1871) in New York City is where Eric Rhoads and Tim Newton first met in person and became friends. As you’ll discover in this PleinAir Art Podcast, in addition to his role as Chairman of the Board for Salmagundi, Newton is an art lover and a collector of plein air paintings.

Now beginning his eighth year as Chairman, Newton tells us about the club: “I walked in and fell in love. I applied for membership that very evening. It was just love at first sight.” In this podcast, Newton explains how the shows are curated differently than those he has seen in the West. Rhoads adds that through his role as Chairman at Salmagundi, Newton has helped this wonderful, historic club become an important, dynamic institution. It wasn’t always easy, though. There was a time when Newton considered leaving, but “… instead of quitting, I thought maybe I could be part of the solution to a problem.”

Newton is also a “true art collector.” See what he says when Rhoads asks what you should be doing to help you in your path of selling art, and painting in general, so you can better understand the mindset of a collector.

Bonus: This PleinAir Art Podcast includes an “Art Marketing Minute” Q&A!
