The Show Goes on in Sonoma

In past years, the artists of the Sonoma Plein Air Festival (California) would have arrived to start painting along Fifth Street or Highway 12 or tucked away in a private vineyard. The week-long festivities related to the Festival would have culminated in an Art Show and Sale in Sonoma Plaza and you would be wandering through an outdoor exhibition of beautiful paintings. But not this year.

This year, by special arrangement, 37 artists have teamed up with the Sonoma Plein Air Foundation to bring the show online in a virtual festival, #SonomaPleinAir2020.

Marc Anderson, “Sunset Boulevard,” oil, 30 x 48 in.

From September 7-12, 2020, Sonoma Plein Air Foundation is hosting an exclusive online exhibit featuring new paintings from the artists who were scheduled to be at this year’s event. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these artists lost the opportunity to come to Sonoma to show and sell their work this year – the Sonoma Plein Air Foundation board wanted to give the artists a chance to share their wonderful paintings with those who would have seen them in person on the Plaza.

Eric Jacobsen, ” Autumn,” oil, 16 x 25 in.

“We’ve all been going through challenging times during the pandemic, and it’s tough to predict what our future will look like,” says Jennifer Parr, SPAF Board Co-President. “But we know one thing for sure: Art must be a part of that future!”

Brian Sindler, “Golden Gate,” acrylic, 20 x 20 in.

The Sonoma Plein Air Foundation will continue to support art education and experiences for the kids and the communities of Sonoma Valley, as well as for the professional artists who make the annual Sonoma Plein Air Festival a success.

Alison Leigh Menke, “Billowing Leaves,” oil, 24 x 30 in.

  1. Sonoma Plein Air is such a great cause to support, as it provides arts funding to Sonoma County public schools. Most arts funding in California has been cut from our public school system budget, especially in low income areas. I hope collectors continue to show their support for this great event.
