In this painting, the sun is lower, casting the landscape in shadow. This gives the painting a lower-keyed value, offering a wonderful foil for the sun’s reflection on the water. The scattered light on the water makes the reflections dance while the boats sit calmly, and anchored, on a quiet, undisturbed surface.
