More than two dozen artists gathered in beautiful Zion National Park, in Utah, for a plein air invitational competition in early November. Here’s a wrap-up.
Gregory Stocks won the PleinAir Magazine award for best overall body of work created during the event, which ran from November 2-8. John Cogan won the Foundation Award, which means he will be the featured artist at next year’s Zion National Park Plein Air Invitational, an honor that brings significant exposure.

The Artists’ Choice was Bruce Gomez, while the People’s Choice went to James McGrew. Royden Card won the Superintendents Award, which means his piece will go into the permanent collection at the Zion National Park Museum of Natural History. Suze Woolf won Employee Choice, voted on by employees of the National Park Service, Zion National History Association, and the Zion National Park Foundation.
