More than $6,000 in prizes were awarded in the America’s Parks II competition recently, with a familiar name pulling in the PleinAir Magazine Juror’s Choice Award.

Carol Swinney won that prize for her oil painting “Trail Ridge View.” Steve Doherty, editor of PleinAir magazine; Pam Dean Cable, executive director of the Susan K. Black Foundation; and Todd Wilkinson, managing editor of Wildlife Art Journal, served as the jurors. The complete list of winners is available on the competition’s website.

The America’s Parks competitions, produced by David J. Wagner, are the spiritual heir to the popular Arts in the Parks competitions, which ended a few years back. The exhibition connected with the competition will open on March 16, 2014, at The Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art in Bolivar, Missouri, and continue there through April 28, 2014; it will then be displayed at The Wildlife Experience in Parker (Denver), Colorado, from May 24 – Aug. 10, 2014; and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, AZ from September 13 – October 26, 2014.
