artist painting on the beach
No finer place than a morning paint on the beach!

How did you develop your unique style?
Lon Brauer: Painting is a journey on a winding path. No one can seek a personal style. Rather, in the end, the style finds the artist. It takes time and perseverance. Paint the surface and throw it on the floor. Move to the next one. And the next. And so on. Only after a ton of work has been added to the pile will a look and esthetic develop. It will find us if we stay with it. As a painter I love to experiment. I relish surprises. A different tool or an unconventional way of applying paint can lead to a new direction. I paint to see what will happen. It’s both predictable and random all at once. I know something will appear, but I truly don’t know what. That is the fun of it! So, I keep digging and experimenting. An artist’s work is cumulative. Just like a walk in the woods we must keep putting one foot in front of the other. Each step leads to another. We don’t know from the outset where that path will lead, but it will go somewhere. This will ultimately become our own personal vision.
