Utah artist Rachel Pettit joined up with eight other members of Plein Air Painters of Utah and some friends recently for a few days of painting in the San Rafael Swell in Central Utah. Aside from good painting, the group experienced other things that made the excursion interesting.

For one thing, they were treated to a bird’s-eye view of their activity. Tom Hopkins brought his quadcopter, equipped with a camera, to their painting spot and snapped some photos from high above. Steve Stauffer brought his guitar and sang country songs.
