April 3-24, the California Art Club is hosting its 105th annual Gold Medal Exhibition at the Autry Museum of the American West in Los Angeles.

Featured artists include Clyde Aspevig, Scott Christensen, Daniel Gerhartz, C.W. Mundy, Jeremy Lipking, Ray Roberts, Mian Situ, Jean LeGassick, John Cosby, Michael Obermeyer, Charles Meunch, and more.

“Timeless Procession, Antelope Valley,” by Charles Meunch, oil on linen, 24 x 40 in.

“The display of more than 200 contemporary-traditional fine art paintings and sculpture pays tribute to the pioneering artists who founded the organization in 1909 and inspired California impressionism — the first artistic movement to be defined as uniquely Californian,” a spokesperson for the CAC wrote. “Many of the featured works, however, represent a departure from the pristine California plein air landscapes that defined early Gold Medal Exhibitions. A hallmark of more recent installments of the display is the manner in which the exhibiting artists employ classical fine art techniques to create works that push the boundaries and explore topical imagery and messages. Gold Medal artworks that underscore this year’s transition spotlight more figurative and inner-city themes as well as images of daily life from around the globe.”

“Elysian View,” by Michael Obermeyer, oil, 14 x 18 in.
