The work of plein air painter Louisa McElwain will be on display at Evoke Contemporary Gallery in Santa Fe, in conjunction with the launch of a website dedicated to her work.

McElwain was known for painting large, on location, from the back of her truck, and described herself as “an abstract painter who paints outside.” She died at the age of 59 in 2013, but interest in her work continues to grow.

The website for the artist “will share the life and legacy of this tremendous painter who was a passionate artistic pioneer always on the forefront of the art world with her distinctive style; constant quest for truth and beauty in nature; and her extraordinary zest for life,” according to a spokesperson for Evoke Contemporary Gallery.
