This painting was inspired while on a trip to Provence, France a few years ago; St Tropez to be exact. It’s a beautiful small village on the southern coast of France; a boating heaven. The boats are very, big but I chose to paint the small local fishing boats that tend to have more color than the new boats. The architecture there is very typical of old France. All connected homes no higher than 3-4 stories. Life is lived outside of these homes (now restaurants and boutiques). I love the color and contrast of the ground floor and the simplicity of the higher floors. The painting needed a dark accost so I moved a big dark antique beauty to the center of interest. This is truly my favorite subject matter.
