In this weekly series Kelly Kane, Editor-in-Chief of Plein Air Magazine, shares a favorite painting and artist quote from the current issue.
Kelly Kane’s Pick of the Week: For Sale by Owner
“I had seen this beautiful old home, teetering on the edge of being beyond restoration, a year before. When I saw it still languishing with the ‘For Sale by Owner’ sign in the window, my heart sank. Some of my early memories include growing up in a magnificent, derelict old home built in 1836 that my parents lovingly restored over a decade. I felt I was witnessing what may very well be the end of this old home’s life. The challenge in a painting like this is to faithfully convey the dips and sags while retaining the ‘correctness’ of the structure. If you try to put too much character into the drawing, it will become a cartoon and lose its power.”
