Painting Niagara

In this video, for the first time ever, master painter Thomas Kegler reveals the step-by-step process he used to paint his masterwork “Niagara, Psalms 84:11.”

Kegler’s lifetime goal as a painter was to master the techniques used by renowned Hudson River School painters of the 19th century. Entirely self-taught, Kegler felt a special connection to these artists and their techniques, but after years of trial and error, he was unable to give his paintings the feeling captured by these historically important painters.

  1. Thanks Eric and Thomas for a wonderful interview. Thomas is a quality guy, brilliant and beautifully articulate. This podcast is exceedingly interesting, inspiring, and encouraging. Thanks.

  2. Good interview. I took one of Thomas’s workshops in the White Mountains of NH and it was great. Instructional and inspiring. Also have his first DVD which I still watch. There is always something on there that I missed from previous viewings, so am always learning something.

  3. So far best Podcast have listened to here on PleinAir, actually from any artist. Very heartfelt and honest…we truly appreciate these kind of interviews. Inspired me to move through more strongly with plein air and “time management.” Plan to follow Mr. Kegler in his teachings (dvd’s) and work.
    Thank you!!!
