More than $7,000 in prizes were awarded recently at the First Brush of Spring plein air event in New Harmony, Indiana. Sponsored by the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, the event draws close to 200 artists to paint the colors of early spring in southwestern Indiana, and it has a component directed at children as well.

This was the 15th year for the paint-out. This year, Jerry Smith won the Best in Show award and $2,500 for his painting “Brewery Street Spring.” Other top winners were Todd Williams, for Outstanding Oil; Carol Strock-Wasson, for Outstanding Pastel; and Robert Pote, for Outstanding Watercolor.
