by Michelle Murphy-Ferguson

About the Artist:

Michelle is a plein air painter, her work is done where air, water, and light, as well as subject position, at times change around her as she works on the canvas. You will see those subtle nuances of nature, weather, and expression in her paintings.

Born in the small mill town of Scotia, California, she grew up in the Eel River Valley with eyes focused on her surroundings. Her love of the landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, and portraits of our daily lives have won her several awards, acclaim in the California art community, and a special place in our hearts.

Michelle has studied in France, Germany, Italy, and in nearly every major art community in California. She has been an artist in residence at the Morris Graves Foundation estate and strives to capture the elusive spirit of the Northwest, much as Graves did during his long, illustrious career.

Ribbon of Light was painted on location along the Lost Coast looking North toward Sugar Loaf rock. The Lost Coast is known for its rugged shoreline and is a prime spot for camping and hiking. The trail starts from Ferndale, California, and ends near the small town of Rockport, California, above Fort Bragg, California.

Her work can be seen by appointment in her studio, or at the Strawberry Rock Gallery, Trinidad, California. & The Crown Jewel in Ashland, Oregon.
