In only its second year, the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational has attracted top names and rave reviews. Who left with awards?
 
Dee Beard Dean, William Underwood Eiland, and Peter Trippi served as awards judges for the 2016 edition of the competition, with Roger Dale Brown, Del Martin, and Gene Wright serving as selection jurors. The event ran April 25-May 1.

Baltimore artist Stewart White won Best in Show for his piece “Ascend & Ponder.”

Jason Sacran won the Matisse Award of Excellence for his “Interlude.” The Cezanne Best of Landscape Award went to Marc Hanson for his painting “Quail Calling.” Suzie Baker won the Renoir Best Figure in Landscape Award for “Story Tree,” and the Founders Award for Best Nocturne was won by Jim Richards for “Railroad Crossing.”

The PleinAir Magazine Best Use of Mystery Award was won by Bill Suys for “Anvil at the Ready,” and the PleinAir Magazine Best Use of Light Award went to Thomas Jefferson Kitts for “The Breakfast Club.”

The Gamblin Art Colors Best Sense of the City Award was won by Charlie Hunter for his “The Vans of Buckhead,” while the Gamblin Art Colors Best Sense of Place Award went to Scott Gellatly for “The Falls.” The Druid Hills Civic Association Best Use of Light Award was won by Cindy Baron for “Waterfall at Buckhead.” Jill Basham, David Boyd, and Bryan Guglielmi won Judges’ Awards of Merit.
