A group called Emerging Plein Air Artists (EPAA) is trying to promote plein air painting among those starting in the genre with a twice-yearly contest.
EPAA seeks to “applaud, recognize, encourage, and foster the new and developing careers of emerging plein air artists,” according to its publicity. An e-mail question to the group prompted this reply: “There are many out there ready to bust out if given the right amount of encouragement!”
The next contest starts November 1 and runs through January 31, 2014. The group has secured OPA artist Roger Dale Brown as juror of the contest. The competition awards cash prizes of $1,000 and $500, plus equipment and significant publicity in top art publications. See the group’s website for prospectus and entry procedure.
Nice work Mark!
Beautiful paintings! I envy your hikes into the “wilds”.
Wow, this is so inspiring, I can’t wait to have some adventures like this!
Take me with you next time Mark.
Looks like a great trip and you lucked out on the weather.
I am coming from photography to oil painting and the appeal of being outside painting has drawn me to plein air painting. I hope to become a plein air painter as I enjoyed photography for the chances to get outside. After seeing this setup I am already wishing I knew how to paint so I could get started en plein air.
