Lisa Prosser paints on a private ranch in the Wet Mountain Valley as part of the Alla Prima Westcliffe 2013 event, sponsored by the Sangres Art Guild.

Lisa Prosser found a beautiful spot in which to work during the recent Alla Prima Westcliffe event, held in Westcliffe, Colorado. The event caught the landscape at the cusp of fall in the Wet Mountain Valley, October 3 through 5.

This was the seventh year for the event, which was designated as a plein air paint-out in years past. The organizers dubbed this year’s event “alla prima” to acknowledge their acceptance of still lifes and figure paintings done indoors “in the manner of plein air,” meaning from life and generally in one session.

Prosser reports that high winds made her abort her painting before she finished it, but she plans to finish the piece in her home studio using her husband’s photographs of the area.
