New Zealand artist Richard Robinson will again be joining the Plein Air Convention & Expo; the 2nd annual convention is set for Monterey, California, from April 10-14, 2013 (www.pleinairconvention.com). He recently posted a free online book of painting instruction that documents the work he did while living with his family in Hawaii.
A sketch and studio painting included in Robinson’s free book
In August 2012, New Zealand artist Richard Robinson moved to Hawaii for three months with his wife and two children. Their goal was threefold: to escape the winter, to have a family adventure, and to paint with local artists.

While in the Hawaiian Islands, Robinson filmed some instructional programs and produced a painter’s diary. The diary is now available for free to anyone interested in reading a collection of his thoughts, realizations, and notes, or in seeing a demonstration of his painting techniques. “I wrote it to inspire and enlighten landscape painters and art lovers who have a thirst for tropical adventure and practical painting know-how,” Robinson says.
