In August 2012, New Zealand artist Richard Robinson moved to Hawaii for three months with his wife and two children. Their goal was threefold: to escape the winter, to have a family adventure, and to paint with local artists.

While in the Hawaiian Islands, Robinson filmed some instructional programs and produced a painter’s diary. The diary is now available for free to anyone interested in reading a collection of his thoughts, realizations, and notes, or in seeing a demonstration of his painting techniques. “I wrote it to inspire and enlighten landscape painters and art lovers who have a thirst for tropical adventure and practical painting know-how,” Robinson says.
