Kelly Kane’s Pick of the Week: Whetstone in April
For Shaun Horne, working en plein air isn’t so much about harnessing a moment, but gathering a compilation of impressions. “All the paintings end up being a greatest hits of what I’ve seen during the time frame that I was there,” he says. “A big painting will span five weeks, so there are things that are in my paintings that never coexisted, but they all existed at some point. They’re a smear of time. … “Whetstone in April” shows one of the best road-accessible river reflection views in Crested Butte,” he says. “I’ve done versions of this view in all seasons, perhaps 15 times now.”
